Howe High School has implemented a new program for the Spring, 2019 semester. Students have the opportunity to enroll in an Internship program and receive high school credit while learning about future career opportunities. Local businesses have partnered with Howe Public Schools by allowing students to come to their place of business five days a week for one to two hours each day to learn through hands-on experience about careers within our community. Presently, three students have enrolled in this program.
Marlene Miller works at Benzer Pharmacy from 1:25 to 3:05 pm each day. Dr. Steve Helm, the Benzer Pharmacist, is thoroughly pleased with Marlene and her willingness to work. She has done everything asked of her and never complains. She observes a lot of the time, but spends some of the time finding expired medicines and cleaning (part the duties of owning your own business).
Joseph Bacon works at Mark it Place from 10:10 to 11:50 am each day. Karen Mill, owner of Mark it Place, believes Joseph has a bright future in the area of Graphic Design/Computer Science. He catches on to things quickly and completes the task at hand. Joseph is learning to use CORELDRAW software. He designed his first key chain and was very excited about the finished product. Joseph learned Photoshop in the Howe Multimedia class and CORELDRAW is an advanced continuation of using the skills learned at Howe. Karen is quite pleased to have Joseph each day.
Hope Lockhart works with Dr. Scott Parham at the Parham Chiropractic in Cameron, OK on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:25 am to 12:25 pm. She also works with Mary Parham at the Historic Downtown Poteau office on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:25 am to 12:25 pm. Hope has been learning the clerical side of the business. She will also have the opportunity to observe Chiropractic procedures. Hope has already toured Parker University in Dallas, TX in hopes of attending Chiropractic school after graduation. Mary and Scott are very pleased with Hope and are excited to have her as a part of their team. #HPSLions #OutsideTheLions
